The Future of Dentistry Is Digital
The digitization of dental procedures at SO Dental at Chatswood Place and Lemon Grove Shopping Centre in Chatswood has brought new parameters to diagnosis, treatment planning, functional and aesthetic dentistry. The new digital systems allow for greater predictability of results and have considerably reduced the duration of the dental treatment.
Here are some of the latest state-of-the-art dental technologies used by our dentists at SO Dental Chatswood:
Cone Beam CT (3D imaging)
CBCT takes a series of X-rays which are transmitted to a computer which creates a 3D model of the part of the body that was scanned. This detailed, 3D image allows doctors to study your bone structure from a variety of angles and get a detailed view of the area in question.
Our Orthophos SL 3D made in Germany offers high-quality 3D image at a low dose of radiation. Our patients at SO Dental can have a better understanding of the diagnosis and treatment planning options:
- Implantology – recognizing case risks before a surgical procedure, performing implants with minimal invasion
- Endodontics – detecting hard to find canals and diagnostics
- Oral Surgery – eg. Cysts, sinus diagnostics, fractures
- TMD treatment – functional diagnostics and therapy of temporomandibular joint dysfunctions
- General dentistry – eg. Findings that are difficult or impossible to view in the 2D panoramic image
- Airway analysis – 3D visualization of the airways
Could Cone Beam CT Benefit You?
Each patient’s situation is different, and must be carefully considered by our dentists at SO Dental Chatswood before any test or procedure is performed. While CBCT delivers a smaller dose of radiation (X-rays) than many other diagnostic tests, it still carries a small risk — particularly for younger patients, or those with other health problems. As is the case for any medical procedure, all risks, benefits and alternatives are taken into account before the procedure is recommended.
Digital Diode Laser Treatment (courtesy of Dentsply Sirona)
Dental diode lasers deliver clear benefits over conventional methods of treatment with mostly scar-free wound healing and improved germ reduction. For patients, the use of lasers means less post-operative pain and therefore less need for medication. Benefits include:
Improved bacterial reduction
The proven infrared 970-nm diode is used to reduce bacterial levels in periodontology and endodontics.
Less post-operative pain
The SiroLaser Blue delights users and patients alike, since it makes uncomplicated healing possible, reduces post-operative wound pain.
Mostly scar-free wound healing
It often makes sutures unnecessary, and thus usually mostly ensures scar-free healing of surgical wounds. Another advantage is that it may be possible to dispense with antibiotics after endodontic, periodontic, or surgical treatment.

Conventional impressions are not necessary for dental treatment. We save our patients the unpleasant impression tray and the associated gag reflex.

The intraoral camera is an amazing diagnostic tool for viewing different angles in the mouth that we would not have been able to just a few years ago. The camera gives us the ability to view the entire mouth on a monitor so that we can get a closer look at any potential issues or problems that may arise. In addition, the patient will have the ability to see for themselves first hand the same images we are seeing.
At SO Dental Chatswood we use the SiroCam AF+ intraoral HD camera as a valuable tool for patient education and case documentation.
